A Family Day on Lauwersmeer with Wilma

A personal look back at a pleasant sailing day with my cousin Wilma on Lauwersmeer, with lunch on board and a lovely ending in Lauwersoog

For the Schoonveld.nl family website, this is exactly the kind of memory worth writing down: a relaxed day on the water with my cousin Wilma. Together, we went sailing on Lauwersmeer, from the Wadden dike toward the Zoutkamperril and back again.

We crossed the lake twice, back and forth. It was partly cloudy, just the kind of pleasant sailing weather that lets you look around calmly and enjoy the water. Lauwersmeer was fairly busy, so there was plenty to see and follow along the way.

One special moment was running into Windekind along the way, a neighboring boat from our harbor in Enkhuizen. That gave the day a familiar feeling: you are sailing on completely different waters, and suddenly you spot a boat you know.

Wilma had brought delicious sandwiches for lunch, and of course they tasted even better on board. At the end of the day, we stopped by the fish auction in Lauwersoog, where we enjoyed a wonderful fish salad. It was a lovely ending to a simple, cheerful, and successful day together.

These are often the kinds of days you enjoy reading back later: heading out together, doing a bit of sailing, talking, eating well, and enjoying the moment. That is why this trip with Wilma certainly deserves a place on Schoonveld.nl.
