Dogs

Helpman 1966 Alex met Bobby

As I was playing with our dog Beke along the Boterdiep in Beijum in the early 80s, I was suddenly shouted at by a cyclist from the other side of the canal“Animal abuser!” I looked up, disturbed. It was Uncle Harke, on his way home. I regularly visit Uncle Harke with our current dog Utah. Harke always tells me about the dog he used to have. He was very fond of that dog, but according to him the rest of the family didn’t like dogs. His brother John, my dad, also was not a dog lover. <br>Somewhere around 1965 my older brothers came home with a puppy. They had stayed with Pake and Beppe, our Frisian grandparents. There was a litter of young dogs that they intended to idrown. My brothers had saved one dog from drowning. The dog was allowed to stay, we called it Bobby. In the attached video on the lawn in front of Huis Groenesteijn in Helpman the Tillemas and brother Alex are playing with the still young Bobby. Everyone in Sunday best.
